One of the problems with being a band best known for major club dance anthems for nearly a decade is how to construct meaningful and relevant albums. Faithless have stayed one step ahead of morbidity by stretching themselves more and more into social and now political commentary. “No Roots” further extends this gradual movement from the quietly topical lyrics on “Outrospective”. Songs like the major single offering, ‘Mass Destruction’ are both lyrically controversial and musically convincing. The consciousness and intelligence of these songs, whilst sometimes depressing, are also politically astute and provoking. It’s hard to bridge the gap between dance-floor classics and sensitive song-writing, but Faithless have managed it with aplomb and conviction.
